Children of Men, IDIOCRICY(!W?T*F), Inland Empire, Pan's Labyrinth, Old Joy, Once, Pervert's Guide to Cinema...Um, one of these things is not like the other. Also, you should do a director's count for the short list. Not so much from your man Tarantino!
Idiocracy is one of those movie's thats becoming more and more relevant for me as time goes on. When I first watched it I didn't think much of it -- it was damn funny but there's a ceratin clumsyness to it that kept it from being great. But the movie keeps coming back to me an a regular basis as I encounter things in my day to day life that Idiocracy got so damn right that despite it's clumsiness it's a brilliant satire.Hal Hartley might win out the director shortlist award, but that is a bit misleading -- between 1990 and 1997 -- that was my main 'absorb as many movies as possible' time and it's when he was making his best movies. And some stuff I just left off of there because I didn't need to be reminded and I knew it wasn't going to get the vote (like Jackie Brown and the Kill Bills, certainly contenders).
